Release!

Saturday, we released the butterflies. It was a joyous event. All the butterflies were healthy, and this year we got to release them BEFORE they ended up laying eggs. Last year, it was too cold and we had to keep the butterflies until after they had laid eggs. Anyone who has tried to contain and find proper food for tiny, tiny caterpillars knows this is not easy. Of the hundreds of tiny caterpillars we ended up with, only 3 or 4 made it to become butterflies.

Here are some picture of this year's release.

And for anyone considering purchase of the "Butterfly Bungalow", just be aware the front does not zip closed. In fact, there are just circular Velcro patches around the butterfly opening. We had a couple escapees due to this design flaw. Fortunately, the escapees flew to the windows, so they were very easy to get out of the house.

Pretty! Now you'll need to plant a butterfly bush so they can all come back.
